"Over and Over" is a song by American rapper Nelly featuring American state music singer Tim McGraw. The lyrics were written by Nelly while the music was written and produced by James D. "Sted-Fast" Hargrove Two and Jayson "KoKo" Bridges. Other musicians contributing to the recording include Bryan Loss (drums) and Matthew Brauss (bass guitar). The lyrics of the song focus on regret.[1]

"Over and Over" was released on September 12, 2004, as the 2nd single from Nelly'southward quaternary anthology, Suit, two days earlier Sweat and Suit went on auction in stores. The song peaked at number iii on the US Billboard Hot 100. Outside the Usa, the single topped the charts of Australia, Canada, Ireland, and the U.k., and information technology peaked within the top ten of the charts in eight European countries and New Zealand. It was received positively past music critics, who gave most praise to McGraw'south vocal functioning.

Critical reception [edit]

Rashaun Hall of Billboard wrote that "Over and Over" possesses "real emotion" and praised Tim McGraw's "moving" lyrics.[ane] Jason Birchmeier of AllMusic as well complimented McGraw's claw, saying that it "works much amend than it should."[2]

Commercial functioning [edit]

"Over and Over" was a success on the Us Billboard Hot 100, reaching number iii on Dec 4, 2004, and spending 24 weeks on the nautical chart.[3] On the Billboard Mainstream Top 40, the vocal peaked at number ane and set up multiple records, including the biggest spring to number one (7–one), the quickest climb to the meridian spot (4 weeks), and the biggest airplay increment for a number-one song (1,783 detections).[4] [v] It also reached number one on the Rhythmic nautical chart and entered the pinnacle twenty on the Adult Superlative 40 and Hot Rap Songs listings.[6] [7] [8] It was the 96th-almost-successful song of the US in 2004 and the 48th-about-successful song of the post-obit yr,[nine] [x] earning a platinum certification from the Recording Industry Clan of America in 2009.[11] The song was a radio hit in Canada, peaking at number one on the Radio & Records CHR/Pop Peak 30 nautical chart.[12]

In Europe, "Over and Over" topped the charts of Ireland and the United Kingdom.[13] [14] In the latter country, it stayed on the UK Singles Chart for fifteen weeks and was ranked at number 25 on the year-finish chart for 2005.[14] [15] It was certified silver in 2013 for aircraft over 200,000 copies in the UK.[16] Across continental Europe, the single entered the top 10 in Republic of austria,[17] the Czech republic,[eighteen] Denmark,[19] Federal republic of germany,[20] Republic of hungary,[21] Romania,[22] and Switzerland,[23] achieving a peak of number two on the Eurochart Hot 100.[24] It additionally topped the Australian Singles Chart, staying at the top for five weeks,[25] earning a double-platinum certification,[26] and finishing in fifth place on Australia's year-stop chart for 2005.[27] In New Zealand, information technology reached a pinnacle of number two on February 14, 2005, and was the year's 29th-acknowledged hit.[28] [29]

Music video [edit]

The music video was directed by Erik White and Nelly himself. During the video, Nelly and McGraw sing individually on split up screen. It starts with Nelly and Tim both waking upwards at 5:30 A.M., both taking showers, and both leaving their houses & getting into vehicles. Nelly has photos of Ciara on his nightstand and in his motorcar, and McGraw has photos of Religion Hill.[30] The settings feature similar scenes of them encountering fans at gas stations, traveling, and making visits to the airport, all the while both preoccupied with their respective significant others. In the end, they both depart on divide but comparable private jets, maybe to meet up with the women they have been singing about throughout the video.
